A native of Arkansas, Perryman is a graduate of Hendrix College, where he earned a bachelor's degree in business and economics. After working in a savings and loan business for five years, Perryman found himself unable to resist a long-heard inner call to join the ministry. Perryman sold their house, quit his job and at age 26 entered Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Ga.
